George was born November 11, 1906 in Portsmouth, Virginia.

As a young man Lindsay started his professional life as a commercial artist after training at the prestigious, Art Students League art school in New York City.

By 1939 Lindsay had bought a seat on the Chicago Board of Trade. His immense knowledge of history protected him from financial disaster when the Germans invaded Paris in 1940.

Lindsay started his newsletter service in Los Angeles in 1951 but had moved back to New York by 1956 where he lived and worked until his death in 1987.
